LRS track athletes return home for Undeberg Invite

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos track and field team had two outings within a week, including the Undeberg Invitational in Ritzville. The Undeberg Invite attracted nearly 40 teams to the community, and hosted more than 600 athletes.

The Broncos started their week’s competition in the NE 1B/2B League Meet No. 3 at Davenport Middle School on April 24.

The LRS women’s team finished in third place with 93 points. The LRS men’s team scored 34 points and placed seventh.

The women’s team was led by senior Rachel Schell, who sprinted her way to two first place finishes during the meet. Fellow senior Rose Melville also earned to first place awards in distance events.

LRS senior Sierra Kiel earned a second and third place finish for the team, earning points in both of her events.

The Broncos returned home to Ritzville for the Undeberg Invite on Saturday, April 28. The annual event serves as a highlight for the LRS competitors.

The day started with a welcome address by Athletic Director Greg Whitmore, who took the opportunity to have a moment of silence for a Medical Lake track athlete who was killed in a car accident only two weeks prior to the local track meet.

The women’s team placed eighth with 32 points, led again by Schell who earned second place in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. Melville also netted a second place finish at the local event, this time in the 3200-meter race.

The LRS men’s team scored six points from a third place finish in the 200 by Anderson.
