Following in his father’s footsteps, Cory Bartlett is the newest business owner to join the Ritzville downtown district. With the opening of Gigamedics, Bartlett brings a computer shop back to a storefront in Ritzville, and will provide computer sales, repair and service.

He will be sharing the office space with the Express Yourself Tye Dye and More shop on the corner of Main and Division, and provides both in office and location based services.

Bartlett said he feels fortunate to share the storefront with another local company, which will help promote and support both businesses.

Bartlett will be hosting a Grand Opening from May 21-25 at the office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. During that time, community members can stop in and visit with Bartlett, as well as enter a drawing to win a Windows 10 HP computer.

Bartlett first began working with computers alongside his father, who operated a computer store in Kansas. At the age of 10, Bartlett learned to build his first computer, and the early life lesson has now transformed into a career.

At his father’s shop, he focused on building, repairing and customizing PC computers. True to tradition, Bartlett is continuing to provide the same services from his Ritzville shop.

The Gigamedics business was created to serve a need in the local community, Bartlett explained. The business name was chosen after his friends called him the “computer doctor” for years.

Bartlett is able to provide customers with affordable and capable computers, as he purchases the majority of computers through school surplus sales. He then rebuilds the computers, and provides them to individuals who may not be able to afford a new computer system.

Bartlett stated there is a need for affordable computer services, and he wants to be a servant leader within the Ritzville community. He added he believes his purpose in life is to help and educate others.

With the refurbished computers, Bartlett allows customers to set up a payment plan in order to ensure they will have a computer at a rate they can afford. With his experience and knowledge about the computer industry, Bartlett said he believes he can be a valuable asset to others.

Through the business, Bartlett provides services including fixing phones, building gaming PCs, refurbishing computers and doing remote repair for customers living outside of the Ritzville community.

He also offers website design and management, network support, social media marketing and graphic design assistance.

Bartlett’s business hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and by appointment only on Saturdays. He is available for technical emergency assistance 24/7, he added.

Bartlett will also travel within 25 miles for service calls. He charges $50 for a repair fee, and an additional $20 for service calls outside of the city limits.

He also provides tutoring for $50 an hour, or student tutoring for $25 an hour. Bartlett said tutoring can include teaching Microsoft Office, as he has a 2016 certification for the product.

Bartlett said in the future he would like to partner with local businesses or organizations to host a computer-basics seminar, which would include learning about privacy, safety, and the risk and reward of social media.

While computers have always been a hobby for him, Bartlett did not pursue computer repair and service as a professional career until recently.

Growing up in Elk, Bartlett said he started working at grocery stores at a young age. He continued to work at the store while working to earn his AA degree from Spokane Falls Community College.

Bartlett and his wife, Melody, have been married for 22 years and have lived in the Ritzville community for the past five years. Bartlett said his career path transitioned from the grocery store, to pursuing music and then transitioned into teaching.

While working at KXLY in 2000, Bartlett completed his bachelor’s degree in education at Eastern Washington University.

As a lifelong entrepreneur, Bartlett focused on pursuing a teaching position in business and design.

Bartlett had opened his own business, NW Marketing, and worked with 12 clients to assist with their marketing and design needs.

Bartlett continued his education by earning his master’s degree at Whitworth University and his doctorate from Walden University.

He began his teaching career in 2003 and continued to teach at the high school level at school districts like Shadle Park , Deer Park and Riverside. In 2011, he accepted a job with the Kahlotus School District where he taught until last year.

Bartlett left teaching after his father was diagnosed with brain cancer, and he wanted to be able to care for him and improve his quality of life as much as he could.

As a teacher, Bartlett said he focused on design, programming and Microsoft Office. He is also certified to be a principal.

Bartlett said his long-term professional goal is to return to education either as an administrator or department dean at the college level.

Gigamedics is located at 101 West Main Avenue. Bartlett can be contacted at 659-0911 or [email protected].
