Broncos Little Guy wrestling squad finishes the season strong

The Lind-Ritzville Little Guy wrestling squad wrapped up this season’s competition at the Jason Crawford Memorial Tournament on April 7 at the Spokane Convention Center.

This year’s squad was comprised of 35 athletes, and they traveled to weekly competitions throughout eastern Washington.

In the final match of the season, 12 local athletes competed representing the Lind-Ritzville communities.

In the five-year-old bracket, Ivan Villa, Jr. lost both of his bouts for the day. Fellow five-year-old Javier Villa won his first round match, before losing in the second and third round bouts.

Deaken Hays competed as the sole six-year-old for Lind-Ritzville, and he lost both of his bouts at the Spokane event.

Rhowan Armstrong took the mat first for Lind-Ritzville’s seven-year-old bracket. Opponents defeated Armstrong in both of his matches.

Will Crow had a successful day in the seven-year-old competition. He started the day with a win, before suffering a second round loss.

Crow would win his third round before suffering defeat in the championship round. He secured a fourth place finish in the tournament with his early success on the mat.

The eight-year-old group for Lind-Ritzville was the biggest and most competitive of the day for the local team.

The team’s successful day was led by Jose Villa, who earned two consecutive wins to move directly into the championship round. A loss in that bout still allowed him to leave the match with a second place finish.

Marciel Davis lost the first match of the day, before going on to win back-to-back bouts. Davis secured fourth place, but suffered a loss in the championship round.

Also competing in the eight-year-old category but facing losses in their first rounds were Lucas Hofstee, Ronnie Jones and Pete Spain.

In the nine-year-old bracket, Jesus Villa suffered back-to-back losses in his bouts.

Rounding out the day’s competition was 13-year-old Brandon Davis, who had a first round loss, received a bye, and then had a loss in the third round.
