Gingerbread house competition, holiday activities planned

On Dec. 16, local gingerbread house artisans can bring their completed works to the H.E. Gritman Senior Center for the chance to win a Gingerbread House Competition.

The completed gingerbread houses must be brought to the Senior Center between 4-4:30 p.m. for the chance to win a prize of having a cookie named after them at Boxwood Home and Garden for the next month.

All gingerbread houses must be constructed with edible materials, and cardboard can only be used for the base.

For the children’s competition, adults are asked to keep their assistance to a minimum. There are four categories for judging: elementary school, middle school, high school and adult.

After the gingerbread houses are brought to the senior center, locals can participate in caroling and a fire pit on the plaza, as well as a hayride. The hayrides will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will be coordinated with Mayor Gary Cook.

The gingerbread house winners will be announced at 6 p.m.

Friends of the Ritzville Partnership Group are sponsoring the event.

For more information, call Karen Cady at 509-999-8941. The senior center is located at 118 West Main Avenue in Ritzville.
