Nudging forward

You’ve probably heard the cliché “It’s like herding a bunch of cats”.

That’s certainly something I relate to at the City. First, please don’t call City Hall and complain that I think everyone is a cat.

This community is, in my opinion, on the verge of greatness. Our resources are substantial and varied.

We have 20,000 or more cars each day traveling right past our front door. We have the potential of 1,800 locals as “built in” tourists and volunteers.

We have an historic downtown, beautiful golf course, water park, museums, walking tours, parks, ball fields, walking path, skateboard park, fairgrounds, rodeo grounds, gun club and multiple churches.

We have a town overflowing with people who want the same thing: an economically healthy, pleasant town for all residents to enjoy.

Perhaps I have a vision of fantasyland where time stands still and everyone smiles all the time. That’s probably a bit too much to expect, but it seems like a good goal.

So how do we apply all that we have for positive utilization? When were you last in the park, walked the path or just strolled downtown? How do you personally view these places?

Groups of people exert a lot of effort to keep this town attractive. There are city employees that do most of the work on public projects such as parks, cemeteries, ball field maintenance, utilities and streets, but volunteers are the reason the museums, golf course, fair and rodeo and other places are clean and repaired.

Volunteers have a personal stake in having the kind of town we can all be proud of.

The point is there’s a need for all of us to do some small part in keeping our town attractive for visitors and residents alike. Local organizations are designed for this purpose to reach that goal, but a fresh group of volunteers is needed as well.

Please consider spending a little time to make your community better for everyone. Work with those already established to reach these common goals, or call city hall if you see a project you’d like to work on. Helping your town is a great way to expend energy for a noble cause.
