Broncos baseball team plans to finish the regular season strong

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos have worked to finish their last regular games by showing off all they have learned from this season.

They started the week strong in a doubleheader against the Reardan Indians on Tuesday, April 19. They were able to take the first game with a final score of 14-1 after a strong five innings.

The Broncos scored in each inning and brought in six runners in the bottom of the second. Easton Nelson pitched and Bryce Hansen was behind the plate.

In the second game Head Coach Jason Aldrich said the team struggled to score runs and prevent opposing runners from scoring. They lost this game 1-26 after a 19 run inning for the Indians in the third.

This inning also saw four pitching changes for the Broncos. Garrett Frederick started the game, Brandon McClure relieved him, followed by Camden Smith and Bryce Kelly. Hansen closed the game by pitching in the fifth inning with Spencer Miller behind the plate.

The Broncos then traveled to Davenport on Saturday, April 23, to play a doubleheader.

These two games ended with the Broncos being outscored in the two games with scores of 2-15 and 1-16.

Aldrich said the team tried hard but in some situations they were unable to get outs and it resulted in long innings.

In the first game against Davenport, the first inning held 13 runs for the Gorillas. Nelson pitched and was relieved by Kelly in the third inning; Miller was behind the plate in this game.

In the second game Frederick, McClure and Kelly pitched with Miller catching again.

Aldrich said the team is keeping their heads up and they continue to go back onto the field. In practice they continue to work on being more consistent hitters. Aldrich sees improvement here but due to youth and inexperience the consistency has not stuck yet.

The Broncos had their final regular season game Tuesday, April 26, in Liberty against the Lancers. After this there are two days of District Tournament play. The Broncos are currently 10th in the Northeast 2B League.
