Fourth of July weekend brought smiles and excitement with the annual parade through downtown Washtucna and activities followed in the park.

Located at 287 SW Main Street is the future Washtucna Community Center and Historical Museum, which, thanks to the support of community members, had a successful weekend “yard sale” to get the project underway.

Lee Ann Blankenship stated the support of the future center over the holiday weekend helped put the project into motion.

Blankenship and other members working toward the goal of offering a friendly, safe environment for community members are extremely appreciative of the support through encouragement, donations, purchases and donations of sale items, volunteers and ideas from fellow residents and patrons for the future center.

Blankenship plans to have more community “yard sales” at the center before the end of the summer and encourages community members of Washtucna and surrounding areas to donate items and join in the effort to be a part of the success.

New ideas for the center in the future include an area wide talent show, creative arts and craft day with projects to be submitted into the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair.

Any persons interested in holding classes from crafts, hobbies, group dance or fitness classes are welcome to contact Blankenship or Carol Thompson.

Blankenship has been hard at work cleaning up the center between working part-time as a nurse in the Tri-Cities. Currently working on the floors, she is excited how things are coming together and looks forward to the positive growth in the small community.

The historical museum will be open Mondays and Wednesdays through harvest with hours subject to change as more volunteers are available. Anyone with historical information, pictures or items supporting the history of Washtucna may be brought to the museum for display.

Blankenship couldn’t express enough how appreciative the group of volunteers making this project a success are toward the valued community members who have helped get the project underway.

With more work to be done, the group has set up an account through U.S. Bank for any persons wishing to help support the center and museum financially.

At any branch, contributions can be made to the Washtucna Historical Museum account.

Patrons are also welcome to help with cleanup and slight renovation of the center.

Anyone wishing to join in the success and support the community of Washtucna through the historic museum or future community center, may contact Lee Ann Blankenship at 509-646-3410, or Carol Thompson at 509-646-9898.

More information and updates for upcoming projects or activities for the center and museum can also be found on their facebook page; Washtucna Wa. Our Town.
