Lady Broncos fall to Colfax

The Lady Broncos played a double header against Colfax, one of the top teams in the league Friday, April 3.

Head coach Todd O’Brien stated the first game of the double header went heavily in favor for Colfax, with the best pitcher out of the league throwing pitches with a velocity the Lady Broncos hadn’t seen before.

Colfax pitcher ran a five inning no hitter with a final score of 19-0 Colfax. The Lady Broncos had a couple of base runners but were unable to bring any in for a score.

“Not the best showing of defense,” O’Brien admitted with six errors in the first game but was very proud of the change in competition come the second game.

The Lady Broncos were able to catch up to the pitcher and make it on base.

Kim Gimmaka hit the single RBI bringing in the only score for the Lady Broncos during the second game. The Lady Broncos were able to hold Colfax and play through seven innings ending with a score of 10 -1 Colfax.

O’Brien was proud to see the aggressiveness out of the Bronco defense making just three errors in the second game. Janna Mattox, pitching for the second game, played all around good defense including a diving stop made on the mound.

Emma Aldrich and Raeann Hoeft each ran down a pop fly for two Colfax outs. Infielders Tessa O’Brien and Laurel Hayes each ran down pop flies to hold Colfax.

O’Brien was proud to see the Lady Broncos hold their own in the second game and is happy the team is past the toughest competitors early on in the season.

The team and coaches are excited to move on and continue their growth in the season.
