Lind Chamber to host a Town Hall meeting

The Lind Chamber of Commerce is inviting all Lind residents and citizens from the surrounding area to attend a Town Hall meeting on April 17. The meeting is being held in the Lind Senior Center and begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Refreshments and child care are provided at the event.

The discussion to host a town hall meeting began earlier this year after a presentation by former Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce President Stephen McFadden, who encouraged the Lind Chamber of Commerce to bring the community in and receive feedback. The chamber had invited McFadden to speak on various ideas to help improve the Town of Lind.

Lind Chamber of Commerce president Carin Monroe said the idea of having a town hall meeting with a graffiti wall for residents to write their input seemed like the best fit for the community. Every individual attending the event has an opportunity to write on the wall about what they would like to see in town as improvements or potential events to host to draw more visitors to the town.

“What we want to do is see our town revitalized, and get ourselves back on the map,” Monroe said. “We want to have more to offer people and get them to come into the town.”

Barbara DeVore, secretary for the chamber, explained all in attendance at the town hall meeting have the chance to write their opinions on the graffiti wall, and after all statements have been written, the citizens than have a chance to vote on the ideas they find most important.

The chamber members are hoping residents provide ideas or write concerns about the community. The purpose of the meeting is to develop unity within the community, and work together to help rebuild and improve the town through projects or events.

After the ideas and concerns have been recorded on the wall, citizens can place color-coded stickers next to the items they find the most important. The discussion following this activity will be based around the ideas the residents view as the highest importance.

The chamber board members encourage all Lind residents from within the town limits and in the country to attend the meeting and express their ideas. The purpose of the meeting is to begin working to improve the quality of life within the community and help Lind become a viable town.

The event is open to the public and all individuals have an opportunity to write on the graffiti wall. After the meeting, the chamber board members hope to prioritize a list of needs and wishes within the community, and begin taking steps to make those ideas reality. The chamber board members are also hoping the forum sparks interest in community members to create a more united town and begin volunteering to help with the future projects.

The Lind Senior Center is located at 117 North I Street.
