Palouse Falls bill passes Senate

The efforts of the fourth through sixth grade classes at Washtucna School have paid off as the bill they helped draft has now passed the Senate. House Bill 2119, designating Palouse Falls as the state’s official waterfall, passed the Senate with a 46-3 vote on March 4.

The bill was sent to Governor Jay Inslee during the afternoon on March 4 for official designation of Palouse Falls being the state’s waterfall.

Fifth and sixth grade teacher Janet Camp, who created the project with fellow teacher Amy Whipple, said the students watched the video of the bill being passed into the Senate on March 5. Camp said they are currently unsure if the students will travel to Olympia for the signing of the bill, but have also sent a request to see if Inslee would travel to Palouse Falls to sign it.

The students at Washtucna are now planning a fundraiser dinner, sponsored by the Rimrock Grange, on April 27. All of the funds raised at the event will be put towards purchasing a commemorative plaque to place at Palouse Falls.
