Lady T-cats fourth at Rosalia Tourney

The Lady Tigercats went on the road last week to battle against Tri-Cities Prep (TCP) in a nonleague match, and participated in the Rosalia Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Tigercats secured a fourth place finish at the Rosalia Tournament, after competing in six varsity matches and three junior varsity matches.

The Lady Tigercats traveled to Tri-Cities last Thursday to compete in the second match of the team’s season against TCP. The team fell to TCP in three sets with scores of 13-25, 15-25, and 15-25.

“The girls learned a lot from this game. They were working on a new rotation and had to adjust. The girls continue to work at quickly transitioning and covering. The team did a great job serving again,” Head Coach Sarah Mayer said.

Gail Harder continued to lead the team in kills, earning two during the nonleague match. She also led the team in digs with two.

Lady Tigercats’ setter Lindsey Miller provided the team with two assists and led the team from the serving line with one ace. Freshman middle blocker Britte Harder continued to be a force at the net, blocking three of TCP’s hits.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, 10 Lady Tigercats traveled to Rosalia to participate in the varsity and junior varsity tournament. The team played one match every hour, competing in a round robin, two-set format.

The girls began the tournament at 9 a.m. and faced Valley Christian, winning both sets 25-21, 25-21. The girls moved on to face Coeur d’Alene (CDA) Charter in a junior varsity match and split the games with scores of 23-25 and 25-16.

The Lady Tigercats faced Colton in the third match of the day, and lost both sets: 10-25, 7-25.

The team then matched up against CDA Charter’s varsity squad and split the sets, with the first going in favor of the Lady Tigercats 25-23, and the second being won by CDA Charter, 25-20.

The next match consisted of a JV game against Liberty, when the Lady Tigercats lost both sets but took the first set into extra points with a score of 24-26, and lost the second set 11-25.

The varsity squad matched up against Liberty in the next games, splitting the match with Liberty’s varsity, 25-22 and 9-25. The JV team’s final match of the day was against Colton, and the Lady Tigercats lost both sets: 17-25 and 21-25.

In the final round robin format match, the Lady Tigercats varsity team matched up against Rosalia and lost both sets, 22-25 and 19-25, which moved the team into the bracket play for third or fourth place.

The Lady Tigercats had three athletes step up to lead the team in stats during the round robin format. Kadie Whinery was dominant at the net, racking up 21 kills during the tournament and three blocks. Gail Harder contributed 13 digs, and Miller put up 34 assists for the team and three aces from the serving line.

The Lady Tigercats matched up against CDA Charter in the battle for third place, and won the first set 25-21. The second set went in favor of CDA Charter, 25-8, and sent the team into a third set played to 15. CDA Charter took the win from the Lady Tigercats, 15-8, and the LW squad secured fourth place at the tournament.

In the final match of the day, Whinery continued to lead the Lady Tigercats with three kills, one ace and two digs during the three set match. Miller had six assists during the match.

“The girls worked really hard and were very tired. They had to adjust to different rotations and floating team members. I am very proud at their determination,” Mayer said.

The Lady Tigercats match up against Touchet this Thursday in Washtucna, with the varsity game beginning at 5 p.m.
