Rebounding from a rough first half of the season, the Lady Broncos have turned in a better than respectable effort in the stretch, improving to sixth place in league standings and earning a trip to the district basketball tournament Saturday.

They play Northwest Christian at Mead High School at 3:30 p.m.

The Lady Broncos finished their home court season Saturday with Kettle Falls, delivering a 67-37 pounding.

“They’re struggling a little bit,” coach Randy Heidenreich said. “When we played up there they pressed us, but they didn’t press us once at home. We thought we’d return the favor. We were kind of experimenting too, running some different kinds of press. We got early points off of turnovers.”

The first quarter ended with a 29-11 thrashing of Kettle Falls, giving the Lady Broncos a cushion they would never relinquish.

Davis Killian had a huge night, scoring 19 from the post position.

Jenna Bennet, working from the point guard spot, put in nine points. Kaytlin Phillips scored six while Andrea Bennett delivered seven. Dalyn Killian also had six points. Cathrine Hentges and Brittany Ste. Marie each scored five. Kailey York finished with four points and Brooke Pichette tallied three. Maya Wahl scored two and Mallory Kessler had one point.

Dalyn also grabbed 10 rebounds in the game.

Looking ahead to the NWC contest, the Lady Broncos need to overcome two losses.

“They are young and vulnerable,” Heidenreich said. “They are good and have some good young talent. They play a lot of AAU basketball. Our transition defense is going to be a big key.”

The district tournament is a double elimination event. The Lady Broncos play again on Monday, win or lose.

“The whole season has kind of been in waves for us,” Heidenreich said. "We win a few and lose a few.”
