Family members call for community to honor Undeberg with new track

We are writing this letter to express our thanks and gratitude to the members of Project 56 and the many donors who have supported the Ritzville track project and to ask for your continued support. Though we have been out of school for a few years now, our fondest memories of high school are our track seasons.

Our grandpa, Harold Undeberg, was the starter for all of the races for nearly all of the meets for 25 years. His love of kids and track was obvious to everyone who attended or participated in a track meet. Throughout the seasons, he reached out to encourage, congratulate and even console many track athletes.

Throughout those 25 years he would help with repairing hurdles and other maintenance that was needed, but the one thing that was needed most he couldn’t do without help. He wanted to have the track improved to an all-weather track. He told us that was his goal and that he was going to work on this project until it happened.

Sadly, he didn’t live to see his goal achieved. Because his absence is felt by not only the entire Bi-County, but the District athletes as well, we remember him every track meet all season, especially at our annual invitational. If Grandpa knew that the Lind-Ritzville-Reardan Invitational was re-named the Undeberg Invitational he would be very honored.

His dream of hosting our annual invitational at home on our own all-weather track is now our dream. Please help us make Harold’s and our dream come true – help us to finish our all-weather track project so that we can bring the Undeberg Invitational home to Ritzville where it belongs.

Thank you again for all of the support that you have always given to us and all of our fellow athletes. It was such an honor to represent this community.
