BBCC Foundation accepting scholarship applications for 2012-13

Big Bend Community College Foundation scholarship applications for 2012-13 are available now in the Financial Aid Office and on the college’s website.

“An estimated $190,000 in scholarships will be awarded to 145 students for the 2012-13 academic year that starts in September of 2012,” said Doug Sly, executive director of the BBCC Foundation.

The deadline is March 16, 2012, for receiving completed applications in the Financial Aid Office. Only completed applications submitted by that date will be considered.

Applications also will be available soon in local high school counseling offices.

“The Foundation has scholarship opportunities for professional/technical and transfer students,” said Sly. “We have awards for new students and returning students, and even have scholarships for part-time students.”

There are three scholarship forms—for professional/technical students, for 2012 high school graduates, and one application for 65 named scholarships managed by the Foundation. Students must read the criteria for each named scholarship to decide if they are eligible to apply. You need three current letters of recommendation and a copy of high school/college transcripts to apply for BBCC Foundation Scholarships.

The BBCC Foundation’s ability to increase awards and expand the reach of its scholarship program is made possible by the generous supporters of Cellarbration!—the Foundation’s scholarship fundraiser held in May.

The event has raised more than $600,000 for scholarships in the last nine years.
