    Mildred Emma (Ellis) Woodyard, age 91, died Sept. 23, 2011, at DeKalb, Ill. She was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Endeavor, Wisc., to John B. and Emma C. (Ely) Ellis. She taught home economics in Wisconsin, Washtucna and Prescott, worked part time at the Washtucna post office and had been active in Rebekahs, Rimrock Grange and Washtucna Seniors.     Kristina K. Courson and Hans C. Hennings were married Sept. 29, 2011, at Marengo. Ray Grams, friend of the couple, officiated the ceremony.     I was told this story by an engineer who I worked for many years. He was the third of five siblings and seven years old when these events occurred. The family farmed on an island in the San Juans. At some point, the parents opted out of living and working in the big city and turned to farming and raising livestock. They liquidated all holdings on the mainland and purchased the farm where their children learned to milk cows, feed and care for pigs and horses, muck out stalls, gather eggs, along with a myriad of other duties... Full story

  • Eighteen to go shopping with local police, deputies

    More than $1,900 has been donated and will make it possible for 18 children to participate in this year’s Shop with a Cop program on Saturday. The Ritzville Police Department is leading the local effort. Local law enforcement, including the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol, will take selected children shopping for Christmas gifts for their siblings and parents.
