  • Blanket drive for the homeless ends Nov. 1

    Last year over 2,000 people did not have shelter during the winter in Spokane including children. Many of them were turned out of shelters due to lack of space. To help a group is collecting new and gently used sleeping bags, heavy blankets, pillows and pillow cases for those left out in the cold this winter. They will be delivered to the homeless community in Spokane on Nov. 1. Items can be donated at the Ritzville Grade School, the Top Hat Motel, Ace Hardware, Wilbur-Ellis or Scones Irrigation in Wilbur.... Full story

  • Producer information sessions for Farm Bill programs

    Area Farmers and Ranchers who are interested in learning about two of the Farm Service Agency’s new programs will have opportunities to do so in their local areas soon. In Ritzville the meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 3, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the American Legion Hall. Meetings are also scheduled for Connell and Harrington as well.     During Halloween this year, several organizations offer different support for trick-or-treaters during the days activities. The Ritzville Grade School will hold its annual Fall Festival on Friday. It begins at 12:50 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. for Pre-K through Second grade students. From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Third and Fifth grade students will participate.   • Lind-Ritzville FFA teams head to nationals

    The Lind-Ritzville FFA Chapter had three teams qualify to compete at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, this year. After finishing first in state in their respective contests, the students are currently in Kentucky preparing and beginning the national contests. The chapter has a long-standing history of being competitive in the Agronomy contest, with teams traveling from the local area for eight years to compete in nationals.     The Ritzville Wonderland Float and the Distinguished Young Women of Ritzville have been traveling this summer representing our community at various area parades. The first parade we attended was the largest parade of the season, the Spokane Lilac Torchlight Parade. This was the first of two evening lighted parades.     A local yarn group has taken on a project to support troops who are returning to Fort Hood, Texas, after a deployment. The project is Blankets for Barracks Troops and is being spearheaded by Megan Palmer, the Family Readiness Group (FRG) leader. Palmer created a group on Facebook for the project called “Blankets for Barracks Troops.” Anyone may join the group on Facebook.
