  • Broncos continue to battle for league championship

    Tyler Fryberger II|Updated Oct 23, 2014

On Friday night there were three teams in the Broncos’ league with undefeated seasons including LRS, the Reardan Indians and the Colfax Bulldogs. On Saturday morning, there would only be one team who could claim that title. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos secured their position at the top of the league by defeating Reardan 7-6 in a tough game on the Indians home turf. With Colfax falling 19-48 to Davenport the Broncos are in a good position to be the champions in their league this year. Friday night’s game saw two old riv...

  • November Election is about Jobs and Wages

    Don C. Brunell, Business Commentator|Updated Oct 23, 2014

November’s election needs to be about the people who are unemployed or underemployed and how best to increase wages. It worked for Bill Clinton. “It’s the economy, stupid” was coined by Clinton’s campaign strategist James Carville in Clinton’s successful 1992 presidential campaign against President George H. W. Bush. In March 1991, days after the ground invasion to liberate Kuwait, 90 percent of Americans approved of President Bush’s job performance. The following year when the economy soured and the President had to swallo... Full story

  • The 2014 Hunting Season

    Sandra Weigand, Guest Columnist|Updated Oct 23, 2014

(This is for Anita, my friend who is always encouraging.) My husband, Mark, is a provider. As in too-many-to-remember successive years now, he brought home the gutted carcass of another soft-eyed, graceful member of God’s creation, slain by a shell in a rifle carefully aimed at its gentle heart by him. Tasty and nutritious though venison is, the image of a sobbing, scared Bambi and his dead mother always cross my mind when this holocaustic season arrives. So instead of the morbid, I focus on the trip’s positive aspects for...

  • Lady Broncos fighting illness, inconsistency

    Updated Oct 23, 2014

On Thursday Oct. 16 the LRS Lady Broncos took on the Liberty Lancers in an away game. The Lancers had been able to defeat the Broncos earlier this year at the Rosalia Tournament and Coach Cari Galbreath expected the team would face fierce competition from the Lancers saying they were much improved from previous years and they seemed “hungry” to defeat the Broncos. The Lancers pushed the match to five, winning the first and fourth sets 25-17 and 25-10. The Broncos took the seco...

In the Colton match, the Lady Tigercats fell in three sets with scores of 18-25, 20-25, 21-25.
