    The annual Mennonite Country Auction and Relief Sale is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 7. The event has been held in Ritzville on the first Saturday of October for the past 40 years, and is expecting to welcome even more visitors to the central location.   • Mock collision scene staged at LRHS - Students learn vehicle safety, consequences of distracted driving

    Lind-Ritzville High School students and staff members watched as law enforcement and first responders responded to a staged two-vehicle collision near Lind-Ritzville High School on Eighth Avenue and Chelan Street on Sept. 25. In the scenario, the driver of a van failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a Honda, causing it to roll onto its top. There was one fatality and four injuries.   • Ritzville City Council approves invoice for well work

    During their Sept. 19 meeting, the Ritzville City Council membersvoted 6-1 to approve an invoice from Specialty Pumps for $84,226.30 for the labor, materials and rebuilding the motor for Well No. 8. The council also voted 6-1 to have Public Works staff remove Well No. 8’s motor and assess its condition because the motor is not working.     The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus Lady Tigercats spent the past week battling against competitors they will face later in the season during nonleague contests.     For the 2017-2018 school year, the Associated Student Body (ASB) mission statement for Lind-Ritzville High School (LRHS) is to embrace the concept of “why not.” To help drive home the mission statement and inspire students, LRHS experienced a presentation from motivational speaker Jake Ballentine last Tuesday. After the high school presentation, he traveled to Lind to inspire to LRMS. Ballentine has the credibility to speak to the “why not” mentality.     Roland Hintze, 89, died Sept. 19 at Pine Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Spokane. He was born Feb. 12, 1928, to his parents Christian and Lina (Bimmerviecks) Hintze who immigrated from Germany in 1923. He was preceded in death by a sister Gisela Hintze, parents, stepfather George Gudem, daughter Karen Hintze and wife Ruth Hintze.     Moreen L. Allen Heaton was born on Feb. 22, 1938, in Rockford, Washington. She died on Aug. 29 in Beech Creek, Pennsylvania. She was a 1956 graduate of Ritzville High School and was proud to be honored as Homecoming Queen her senior year.
