  • Perspective

    Dale Anderson|Updated Sep 24, 2015

I watched a couple of real nail biters on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Friday night the Broncos took on the Okanogan Bulldogs and came away with a hard fought 28-21 victory. Some might call it revenge for last season’s semi-final loss in Moses Lake but this game was just a game in the early part of the season and not a winner go to the championship game and loser go home. But this matchup will help both teams as they work to polish up their game by eliminating t...

  • Silver mining has a silver lining

    Don C. Brunell, Business Commentator|Updated Sep 24, 2015

Remember the old saying, “Out of sight out of mind?” How about, “What you don’t know won’t hurt you?” Both of these axioms are problematic today, especially when it comes to things we need for our everyday lives. Here’s why. Recently, a botched cleanup job by a federal EPA contractor made headlines. The crew accidentally breached the wall of a containment pond at the Gold King Mine near Durango, Colorado, sending three million gallons of mustard-tinged muck down the Animas River. Now the EPA has stopped work on 10 old mining...

    Updated Sep 24, 2015

On September 17, freedom lovers across our nation observed Constitution Day, which we recognize as the day 288 years ago that the Founders signed the document that has guided us and protected individual liberties over the course of American history. In 1788, the Constitution with the Bill of Rights was signed by delegates to the Constitutional Convention to protect Americans’ individual rights from overreaching government, embodying the value that “We the People” truly govern. As Americans, we are instinctively keen to defend...

    Rob Roettger, Superintendent of Lind-Ritzville Schools|Updated Sep 24, 2015

In 2002, the voters within the Ritzville School District passed a $3,500,000 Capital Projects Bond at a rate of $1.90 per thousand dollars of assessed property value. The purpose of the bond was to remodel Gilson Gymnasium and to provide upgrades to the grade school, high school and Ag buildings. This bond will mature on December 1, 2016. Over time, property values within the community have gradually increased, and in 2011 the District refinanced the bond in order to secure a lower interest rate. Consequently, the current...

    Katelin Davidson|Updated Sep 24, 2015
