Boutelle, who is starting his first year as a teacher at Washtucna, spent 36 years teaching in Arizona before spending last year at Moses Lake. In Arizona, he taught in schools with over 2,000 students and always had at least 30 students in his class room. In Washtucna, his smallest class size is four. • Worst Seat In The House: Upon further review

    Dale Anderson, Sports Columnist|Updated Sep 19, 2019

Watching a sports telecast has changed throughout my lifetime. As a young lad you really only got to see a play once and if you missed it the people in the TV room would need to explain what happened so you would be caught up to live action again. The instant replay was introduced and as fans we were able to see if the umpires or referees were correct in their calls. I guess we just took for granted that when there was replay that the officials always made the correct...

The 49-year-old Huey helicopter was given to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources for free. She said adding another helicopter will make a big difference come fire season. “They’re able to...

“The freedom to read is essential to our democracy.” So begins the Freedom to Read Statement adopted by the American Library Association in 1953, and which libraries across the nation continue to uphold today. Started in the 1980s, Banned Books Week is an annual event that celebrates our right to read, highlights the value of free and open access to information—even those ideas some consider u...

    Don C. Brunell, Business Commentator|Updated Sep 19, 2019

Traditionally, media coverage of the Paris Air Show focuses on the battle between Boeing and Airbus over market share for newer large commercial jets. However, this year Mitsubishi shared the spotlight with its state-of-the-art “SpaceJet.” SpaceJet is not the latest aircraft to join British billionaire Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic suborbital space fleet. It is a new regional passenger aircraft designed to compete head-to-head with Brazil’s Embraer E-175 for routes...

  • Column: Supporting healthcare solutions for rural America

Rep. Dan Newhouse, Fourth District|Updated Sep 19, 2019

Across the country, we have seen communities and patients struggle to access and afford healthcare. In rural areas, this struggle is intensified by longer distances and the remote nature of our communities. Living in rural America, we recognize emergency services aren’t always just a phone call away. Many of us travel many miles between our homes and the medical facilities that provide primary and long-term care – not to mention specialized treatments, which are often provided across the mountains in Seattle. For exa...
