    Without question, the best news when the storm subsided Sunday evening was that no one was seriously injured or killed. There was notable property damage to homes and public facilities, but everyone walked away relatively unscathed. While many were left in the dark as a result of power outages, no one lost their homes or their lives. In the morning light on Monday, a true testament to community became clear.     After school church school returns to Good Hope Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Every Wednesday classes will be held from 3:15-4 p.m. in the church basement. All youth ages kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to join the weekly event. There will be games, snacks, singing and Bible stories.     Kylie Phillips, daughter of Connie (Kagele) Phillips of Portland, Ore., and the granddaughter of Erna Kagele of Ritzville, graduated with honors from George Fox University in Newberg, Ore., in early May. Kylie graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in interdisciplinary studies of sociology, and family and consumer sciences. She is currently a member of the BridgeTown Ministries Urban Internship program in Portland, through BridgeTown Christian Ministries.... Full story

    Vera L. Hardung died at the age of 93 on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at her home in Mesquite, Nev. She was born on April 21, 1920, to William and Marie Ehlers in Leigh, Neb. Raised on a cattle and wheat ranch in Eastern Washington, she learned the value of hard work, a love of land and the outdoors. One of her life goals was to own her own ranch.     Arliene E. (Hille) Roth died at the age of 90 on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Cheney Care Center. She was born on Sept. 11, 1923, to Daniel and Matilda Hille in Ritzville, she was the sixth of seven children. She graduated in 1941 from Ritzville High School. She married Rudy Roth on Sept. 7, 1941, at the Ralston Community Church. They had grown up a quarter mile apart on their family farms.     As we near completion of the track project at Jimmie Snider Field, I would like to provide an update on the work that has been done and the rationale for decisions that were made during the project. The project: A capital levy was passed last November, which allowed the district to collect $195,000 per year during the 2013 and 2014 calendar years.
