The Ritzville Rodeo Association (RRA) Youth Drill Team is hosting their first fundraiser as an established team on July 15. The RRA Youth Drill Team will be located at Umpqua Bank from 12-3 p.m. on Friday to wash cars and accept donations for the team. All donations are accepted and appreciated during the car wash. The Goodwill truck will be picking up donations in of Washtucna July 15-17. The proceeds will be split between the Community Center, Historical Society, and the Spay Neuter Your Pet organization (SNYP). On Sunday, July 17, the Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Ritzville Ministerial Association have partnered to offer an afternoon in the park. The afternoon will feature hot dogs, bottled water, plates and silverware provided by the chamber followed by the Ritzville Ministerial Association’s annual ice cream social, with ice cream, toppings, bowls and spoons supplied by the organization. The Town of Lind has been chosen by the American Ramp Company (ARC) to have an all-wheel pump track installed to demonstrate how to use the track properly. Two Lind-Ritzville Middle School students, Essance Holland and Grace Saint John, have been selected to attend Tech Trek, a weeklong science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) camp on July 31 to Aug. 6 at Eastern Washington University. This agreement described the duties and responsibilities of both the City of Ritzville and Daniel Duff regarding to the Ritzville Municipal Golf Course. Ritzville City Park is the host of the newest memorial within the city, and an official dedication ceremony on July 8 recognized the Sprenger family for their donation and involvement with the memorial. A massive fire put up quite the fight on Saturday, July 9, as Ritzville and surrounding communities united to battle the enormous flames. The fire believed to have started at a power pole and proceeded to sweep through Adams and Lincoln County, destroying nearly 2,000 acres of scabland and CRP grounds. During my year as President I learned several things that I thought community members would be interested in learning about. The biggest thing was in regards to the American Legion Hall that not only serves as the Lions and American Legion headquarters but also doubles as our local community hall for events. The four-day garage/rummage sale for The Ritz Theater, held at the Lions Club in June, was a huge success thanks to all of your donations and purchases. Rebecca and Jason Snyder are excited to announce the birth of their son, Jeriah Timothy Snyder. Jeriah was born on May 18 at 3:02 a.m. at Trios in Kennewick. On July 5, Lester Ernest Snyder, 94, died at Sunshine Adult Family Home in Spokane Valley, surrounded by his family. Lester was born on Dec. 15, 1921, in Ralston, Washington, to Benton H. Snyder and Bessie M. Stratton Snyder and was the youngest of the seven children. He grew up on the family farm near Washtucna and lived there until his Parkinson’s disease made it difficult to be alone on the farm at the age of 89.
