  • Senior center pancake feed Friday

    The H.E. Gritman Senior Center will host its pancake breakfast on Friday, May 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Breakfast will feature pancakes, a choice of ham or sausage, biscuits and gravy and coffee with a suggested donation of $5 per person. The breakfast serves as a fundraiser for the senior center and is held the second Friday of every month, except during the summer.   • Mail carriers conduct local food drive Saturday

    The National Association of Letter Carriers is hosting the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 10. All of the donations collected by local postal workers are donated to the Ritzville Food Pantry. Letter carriers from across the country participate in the event and collect food for families in their local communities.     Children enrolling in kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year are invited to tour the kindergarten classroom on May 15 with their parents. The Ritzville Grade School kindergarten classroom is open for parents to walk through on Thursday, May 15, from 10:05 a.m. until 10:35 a.m. Parents and children are asked to check in at the office upon arrival.   • Blaze destroys RV, van

    Ritzville firefighters tackled an early Sunday morning fire in the 500 block of West Broadway that started in an RV. The blaze was reported at 6:52 a.m. The vehicle was parked in the alley and was fully involved when crews arrived. The fire, fueled by a propane tank in the motorhome, also spread to a van parked nearby. Crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to any structures.     A 10-year-old Spokane girl was killed in a car accident on May 3, 13 miles east of Ritzville on Interstate 90. The girl, Gracie Snider, was a passenger in a 1997 Toyota Avalon that struck the rear of a box trailer semi while traveling eastbound on I-90 Saturday at 10:21 p.m. Ten-year-old Ayla James was also injured and transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center.     Amongst the crowd of 40,000 contestants, 80 individuals representing seven local communities braved the crowds and successfully complete the annual Bloomsday race in Spokane on Sunday, May 4.
