The Lind Alumni Association has announced the annual Lind Alumni Banquet on Saturday, May 5, at Lind-Ritzville Middle School gymnasium. The Journal staff will be at the school to take photos of the honored classes from 5:30-6 p.m. Members of the honored classes are asked to be present prior to the start of the banquet at 6 p.m. to be included in the photos. Ritzville citizens help make StageWest’s production of Craig Rickett’s “Seeds of Change” a success. Kathryn Schafer and Bill Sager have brought to life their characters of Joy Miller and Reggie Coulter with their performances. There are only three performances remaining for the play. In coordination with the Inland Northwest Blood Center (INBC), there are two blood drives scheduled in Ritzville during the month of May. On May 16, there is a blood drive at Lind-Ritzville High School from 12:15-3:15 p.m. Donor registration will be inside of Gilson Gymnasium. The Adams County Auditor’s Office will be accepting filings for local offices beginning Monday, May 14. The filing period will close on Friday, May 18. The local offices open for filing are Auditor, Assessor, Treasurer, Clerk, Ritzville District Court Judge, Othello District Court Judge, Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff and Commissioner District 3. The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) issued an Administrative Violation Notice (AVN) to the Ritzville Pastime on April 27 for violating state liquor laws. The WSLCB suspended the establishment’s liquor license from April 27 to May 2 for conduct violations criminal disorderly/licensee/employee drinking on duty/intoxicated on premises, according to a sign posted on the business door. During the April 24 meeting, the Lind Town Council approved a resolution supporting and authorizing the Town to submit an Airport Aid grant application to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Aviation Division. The Airport Aid grant would help the Town acquire matching funds for a Federal Management Emergency Agency (FEMA) grant to repair damaged pavement for the Lind Airport. The City of Ritzville Tree Board is seeking volunteers to help with the First Avenue Beautification project. Saturday, May 5, will be the first of three weekends in May where the city will begin with landscaping and planting of flours, shrubs, grass and trees. Residents can expect to see crews begin rehabilitation work on First Avenue during the month of May. The project, designated the First Street Rehabilitation project by the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB), will consist of rehabilitating segments of First Avenue from Cascade Street to the east city limits. In the absence of two commissioners, the Adams County Public Hospital District No. 2 board decided to postpone the decision to join an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). The Knuth Building played host to a large turnout of supporters for the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair annual Wampum dinner and auction event. The building was packed to the brim with local attendees on Saturday evening, who joined together to support a cause that is important to the youth in the communities of Lind, Ritzville and Washtucna. The City of Ritzville celebrated another year of being recognized as a Tree City USA on April 27 during the annual Arbor Day event.
