Emma Aldrich, LRMS Student Correspondent|Updated Feb 27, 2014

To be able to reflect back on a journey traveled and believe to have made progress is a victorious feeling. A progressive journey well established, but far from finished, is exactly what Lind School District faced this winter. Following the majority passing of the Lind School District facilities bond, the combined support from Lind community members has given Lind-Ritzville Middle School and Lind Grade School the opportunity to vastly improve conditions throughout their buildings, which has staff examining the schools’ p...

  • Athlete or Rock Star?

    Dale Anderson|Updated Feb 27, 2014

A few weeks ago we were treated to the 50th anniversary of The Beatles debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. For those of you too young to know anything about that show let me tell you it was a staple in our house on Sunday nights. Ed would bring on comedians, singers, dancers, magicians, ventriloquists and, the thing I enjoyed most, rock and roll bands. When I went to school the day after The Beatles debut in 1964, we were all mesmerized. It wasn’t so much that the boys from L...

  • President’s performance is lacking

    Updated Feb 27, 2014

President Obama’s “State of the Union Address” was received with the obligatory applause but even his oratorical skills couldn’t hide the lack of enthusiasm that he had shown in previous addresses. He really made a serious blunder by not establishing some political capital during his first two years when he had both houses. His ambitions from previous years have basically been defeated. His signature healthcare law that he has illegally amended 16 times is floundering and the prevarications that have been adding up are cau...

During the recent election Lind and Ritzville voters were asked to approve replacement Maintenance and Operation (M&O) levies, and the Lind School District voters were asked to support a 15-year, four million dollar bond. Currently, the Lind M&O is passing at 73.9 percent, the Ritzville M&O is passing at 68.6 percent, and the Lind bond is passing at 69.5 percent. When the preliminary election results were released on the evening of Feb. 11, I felt a true sense of awe. I was amazed at the level of support we received from our...

  • LTE’s need to be about local issues

    Updated Feb 27, 2014

I for one am extremely tired of our little newspaper being used as a regular political column. I feel this is taking advantage of our “Letter to the Editor” space. Correct me, if I’m wrong, but it seem the space is meant for local people to discuss local problems. Mr. Ray doesn’t even live in Ritzville. And he has hardly missed an issue in at least a year. Is there some reason we have become Mr. Ray’s political platform. It’s bad enough during presidential election years, but this seems, to me, to go beyond what we should h...

  • Legislative Commentary

    Updated Feb 27, 2014

If you were to compare our Senate majority’s priorities – jobs, education and budget – with the votes taken in the Senate so far this year, you’d see a tilt toward jobs and education. There was a reason for holding back on budget work; keep reading for how that’s about to change. Last week got off to a busy start. We were out on the floor of the Senate chamber voting on bills until about 11:45 p.m. Monday. The deadline to bring Senate bills to a vote (except budget bills) this year was 5 p.m. Tuesday; it was another 45 minute...
