  • Soul searching needed to find what’s best hospital

    Updated Feb 16, 2012

In the paper there was an excellent article on the Hospital board and the action it took regarding the hospital administrator. I want to be very clear, I did not and do not support the action of the old board and administrator in the contract negations with Dr’s Eckley and Sackmann. I believe it was handled poorly with little thought given to the hospital or community at large. I also do not support the action taken by the new board members. I, for one, choose Ritzville as my city for retirement in a large part due to the hos...

  • Make repair of city infrastructure a priority

    Updated Feb 16, 2012

It appears to me that a lot of consideration and effort is going on in City Government to acquire new business to our community. I only wish that you folks would also think about getting some grant dollars to repair our aging sewer lines and renew or re-drill the water wells. “Infrastructure.” What we are now using, cannot handle increased usage and is losing production. No new business is going to come here if we are already looking at rationing water. “I am very sorry that again you have the cart before the horse.” You off...

  • CEO not the source of district’s longstanding issues

    Updated Feb 16, 2012

Mark Barglof did not cause rift in this community. It has been festering for many years. I worked at the hospital in 2001. The employees attended several meetings where plans to remodel the hospital were presented. Here we are, over ten years later, and still no renovations. With a new hospital administrator every couple years, it has been impossible for the District to move forward. Terminating Mr. Barglof is not going to resolve our differences. It is only going to make matters worse. He has improved the District like no...

  • Changes needed nationally for brighter future

    Updated Feb 16, 2012

I wonder what would happen to our deficit if the federal government cut the salaries and benefits of federal employees to make them comparable to workers in the private sector. What would happen if real limits were set on entitlements such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security? What if the 71 federal welfare programs that create a nearly one trillion dollar a year welfare state were consolidated and reformed? What if the decision-making authority for education and transportation were returned to the state and local...
