    The H.E. Gritman Senior Center is hosting a pancake breakfast on Friday, Feb. 13, from 7:30 a.m. until noon. The center hosts a pancake breakfast on the second Friday of every month. Pancakes are served with the choice of ham or sausage, with a suggested donation of $5 per person. The breakfasts serve as fundraisers for the group.     The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) is traveling to Ritzville Grade School to put on a performance of Blackbeard The Pirate on Friday, Feb. 13. Students from the local school district participate as the actors for the performance about the quest for treasure and the fun that happens along the way. Performance times are at 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Feb. 13. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students or children.   • County surpluses multiple vehicles

    The Adams County Commissioners opened their public hearing on Resolution-008 to declare 10 vehicles in the Adams County lot as surplus. Public Works Director Todd O’Brien said the county could no longer utilize the vehicles. He also said anything the county could use off of the vehicles; bedrails, toolboxes and the like; had been stripped off of them already.   • Adams County facility fined for multiple air quality violations

    Fertilizer producer Perfect Blend has been fined $32,000 by the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) for air quality violations, including releasing excess particle pollution into the air. At high concentrations, small particles can cause respiratory problems for people. Perfect Blend produces an organic-based, pathogen-free fertilizer primarily from chicken manure near Othello in Adams County.     The Adams County Sheriff’s Department may have the option of housing inmates in the Sunnyside Police Department’s prison pending an agreement between the county and the City of Sunnyside. Sheriff John Hunt and Adams County Prosecutor Randy Flyckt presented the commissioners with a contract from the City of Sunnyside concerning the housing of inmates.   • Fire safety rating for Ritzville department remains the same, despite improvements

    Despite the numerous improvements to the Ritzville Fire Department in response to the Washington State Rating Bureau’s inspection early last year, the Fire Safety rating of seven became official on Feb. 1. This means insurance rates in Ritzville are likely to increase by as much as 10 percent for personal insurance and 25 percent for business insurance rates based on statewide averages.     COLLISION ON COLUMBIA. A collision at the intersection of Columbia Street and Fourth Avenue on the afternoon of Feb. 4 closed the intersection for nearly an hour. The driver of the blue minivan failed to yield, striking the side of a pickup driven by Zach Maier.     The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus Tigercats’ basketball season concluded last week after two games against Oakesdale and Garfield-Palouse. The Tigercats end the season with a 0-15 record.     Betty Lou Rowcliffe, 65, died February 1, in Ritzville. She was born to Jack and Opal Warbrick on November 16, 1949 in Springfield, Oregon. She met and married Harold Rowcliffe on December 19, 1970 in Elk, Washington. They moved to Midland, South Dakota in 1972, where they resided until 1977. They moved back to Elk until 1987; when they moved to Ritzville. Betty worked as a C.N.A. at Life Care Center. After Life Care she worked at the hospital until she retired in 2009.     Of the eight members of the Broncos mat squad only two are slated to move on into the sub-regionals tournament, as alternates. The rest of the Brronco squad was eliminated during the District 7/9 Sub-Regional Tournament held in Ritzville on Feb. 8 and 9. Josh Rosman started his tournament competition on Friday night wrestling at 120 pounds against Tristan Chantry from Selkirk.
