  • Reminder: Ritzville Youth Wrestling begins end of January

    Ritzville Youth Wrestling will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Gilson Gymnasium, with a parent meeting and first practice. All practices will run from 6–7:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Tournaments will be held every weekend in March. Cost to participate is $30 and is open to age groups in first through eighth grades.     Lyndsey (Bolin) Clouse and Alicia Bolin celebrated their 18th birthday on Monday, Jan. 23. Lyndsey and Alicia are the daughters of Ron and Toni Bolin of Ritzville. Lyndsey and her husband Tanner Clouse, son of Monica and Trevis Clouse of Royal City, welcomed their own twin baby girls around 8:40 a.m. Monday, adding to the celebratory day.     The Ritzville Grade School students in grades five through eight participated in the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars essay competition and the VFW selected the top three essays for each class. Dennis Greenwalt of Post 11446 announced the essay winners during an assembly at the grade school on Jan. 13.     The Lind robotics team had a week off due to snow days and is back in action this week. The media side received our PLATT electrical grant that we applied for. This will give us $500 to use toward our build project. To show our thanks the business side has been writing thank you letters to the people and companies that have given us money or assistance.   • Trophies to cost $7,800, insurance coverage pending

    Nineteen reproductions of national FFA awards belonging to Ritzville High School have been completed at a cost of $7,883.26, according to the Ritzville School Board. School board members approved the general fund accounts payable on Dec. 19, including a payment to Wildrose Graphics for $3,941.63 for creating the replacement plaques. Only one board member, Shannon Flynn, voted against the measure. Flynn said she is opposed to spending the public’s money to replace the awards. There was a good dusting in the Olympia area a week ago when I returned from a hunt with a dear friend and former fellow legislator on the Olympic Peninsula (no ducks, but two geese in the bag).
