October 25, 2007 Wheat museum group to meet monthly
About a dozen interested community members met at the Washington Wheat Foundation building last week to plan the next steps for a possible wheat interpretive center. At the head of the effort is Jerry Snyder, local farmer with state and national legislative experience through the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and Adams County Association of Wheat Growers. Although a traditional organization with an executive board wasn’t formed that night, the group decided to meet on a regular basis, trying for a monthly schedule. The next meeting is Thursday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Wheat Foundation Building. By that time, Snyder said funding for the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development should be clearer in the 2007 Farm Bill and the group will look at options within that agency. Some of the next steps include talking with Dr. Don Sebesta about his plans for the wildlife museum and if it includes agriculture, looking at securing legal advise, somewhat secure cost estimates, secure land and find some avenue for monetary support. |
