Local businesses and individuals bid top dollar for a range of auction items at the Lind Chamber of Commerce Auction and Dinner last Saturday at the Lind Grange Hall.

According to Janet Rasmussen of the chamber, about 50 people spent the evening socializing and providing support to the civic organization.

“It’s way down,” she said of how many attended. “It’s just one of those things. It was just a bad year. It must’ve been a combination of things,” she continued, referencing a multitude of other activities the same day.

“We’ll just have to tighten our belts this year,” Rasmussen said. This year, the chamber awarded three scholarships to members of the Lind graduating class, but she expects the chamber won’t be able to do that in the spring.

The auction totaled $3,545, which is a little more than half of what the event raised last year. With such a drastic reduction in funds, the chamber will have fewer monies to support the local community.

During the auction, Alan Schlimmer offered $250 for a gift certificate to the Coeur d’Alene Resort Hotel, which was donated by the Lind Lions Club. A two-night stay at the Methow Valley Inn Bed and Breakfast and a gift certificate to Tappi restaurant in Twisp garnered $240 from Janet Rasmussen.
