October 11, 2007 Historical group to host Alex McGregor
Alex McGregor’s resonating voice and extensive knowledge of agriculture and regional history have captivated audiences on Capitol Hill in Washington, D. C. as well as local FFA chapters. McGregor is the featured speaker for the Adams County Historical Society’s annual gathering on Sunday, Oct. 21, in Hooper. Join the society in continuing the celebration of the McGregor Land and Livestock’s 125th anniversary at 1:30 p.m. in the McGregor Store. Dinner is at 1:30 p.m. in the McGregor Store, which was opened in 1916 and where the family fertilizer business was born in 1948. Shelves and shelves of books and history line the walls in the store. Tom and Nancy Meise of Washtucna are catering the Baron of Beef meal, which includes chicken thighs, cheesy potatoes, Caesar salad, frog eye salad, green beans with bacon, rolls with butter and apple dessert. The society must have the ticket count by Monday, Oct. 15, for the caterer. The McGregor family has deep-seated roots in Hooper after four McGregor brothers moved to the town that spans two counties in 1907. Alex C. McGregor, grandson of Alex and Jennie McGregor, one of the four McGregor brothers who arrived in Eastern Washington 125 years ago, will speak of the family business, its impact on Eastern Washington and about his own love of history. McGregor is the president and chief executive officer of the McGregor Company, the fertilizer and farm supply firm. He is a businessman, a college professor, writer, an avid voice for the Washington wheat producer and active in the Washington Association of Wheat Growers. |
