February 25, 2010 Ritzville educators earn minigrants from CF Industries
Students at Ritzville Grade School and Ritzville High School will discover creative and practical methods of meeting agricultural needs as well as increase their knowledge of the health benefits of fruits and vegetables, the sustainability of agriculture and the effects of economic choices on local growers through a donation from CF Industries’ Classroom Minigrant Program. In all, CF Industries awarded grants totaling more than $1,400 to Ritzville teachers. The teachers recognized by CF Industries were Martha Heidenreich, Nick Weishaar, Cindy Edgren and Diane Leffel of RGS; and Donna Koch and Brad Gering of RHS. The company’s commitment to education in area communities has meant that teachers have earned more than $1.5 million since the Classroom Minigrant Program’s inception. The Ritzville Terminal alone has donated more than $40,000 to public safety, education and youth development organizations. “Working with educators in the Ritzville School District to provide students with new, exciting opportunities focused on agriculture and the environment has been one of our best investments,” said Dennis Schilling, superintendent of CF Industries’ Ritzville Terminal. “Each year, the educators develop more creative projects that stretch the funds farther than we could ever imagine.” The Ritzville Terminal has been a member of the Ritzville community since 1983 and has safely provided quality plant nutrient products to farmers in the region for more than 26 years.
