February 3, 2010 Sign up now for wheat production grower meeting in Ritzville
Reservations are requested no later than Thursday, Feb. 4, for those planning to attend the 11th Annual WSU Research in the Dryland Cropping Area and Adams Conservation District meeting. The combined meeting is set for Tuesday, Feb 9, at the American Legion Memorial Hall, 106 West Broadway, in Ritzville. This meeting is co-sponsored by WSU Extension and Adams Conservation District. “This program is focused on improving wheat production in Adams County,” said Aaron Esser, WSU Extension agronomist. The Adams Conservation District election, registration and refreshments will start at 8 a.m., and the workshop is scheduled to adjourn no later than 2 p.m. Pesticide credits have been requested. The agenda includes: • Presentation by Aaron Esser – “Xerpha, Variety Selection, HRWW, Ecolo-til 2500 Update and More.” • Bill Schillinger, WSU Dryland Research agronomist, will present “Agronomy Research in the Low-Precipitation Zone” and will include a deep-furrow drill design update. • Joel Poore, NRCS Conservation agronomist, will present “Effectiveness of Various Conservation Practices on Wind Erosion Resource Concerns.” • Joe Yenish, WSU Extension Weed Specialist, will present “Broadleaf Weed Control Options in Winter Wheat.” The agenda also includes an update from the Adams Conservation District and the Adams County Noxious Weed Control Board. Topping the day’s agenda are the sixth grade soil conservation essay awards and highlights from the Ritzville High School FFA program. The day will conclude with an opportunity to meet the new WSU Winter Wheat Breeder, Arron Carter, and new WSU Spring Wheat Breeder, Michael Pumphrey. Following the meeting, the Adams County Wheat Grower and Lincoln-Adams Crop Improvement Meeting will take place at the Wheat Foundation Building where growers will have an opportunity to further discuss breeding objectives with Carter and Pumphrey.
