E. Evelyn M. (Plumlee) Floyd

E. Evelyn M. (Plumlee) Floyd, age 82, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, in Spokane.

Born at home to Leona (Ohms) Rush and Floyd Plumlee on Jan. 20, 1927, in Harrah, Wash, she graduated from White Swan High School in 1944.

She married her grade school sweetheart Ernest T. Floyd and they had five children.

She was raised in the lower Yakima Valley and later lived in Othello, Quincy and Connell. In the early 1970s she returned to White Swan and lived there until 2002. She then moved to Lind to live with her daughter, Teresa.

It has been said she was a fun loving person that was always willing to go dancing and kick up her heels. She loved bright colors, especially red, and always dressed to the hilt, even to run to the store. She always had her car packed so she was prepared to go anywhere, anytime on a moment’s notice.

She liked to travel and visited quite a few states in her lifetime.

The family relates that she once told the family that she thought that there was only one president, FDR. He was president when she started school and was still president when she graduated from high school. She learned later that it wasn’t so.

Some may remember her as “Simcoe Queen” from her CB Radio days. She loved visiting with family and friends. There were lots of holiday gatherings enjoyed by family. There were plenty of those late night pinochle, poker, and dice games that included good food and drinks.

She was blessed with many friends, and one special life long friend Cleo (Anderson) Woods, whom she had known since the second grade.

She is survived by her children, Teresa (Butch) Smith-Phillips, Lind; Mike Floyd, Bridger, Mont.; Joyce Teas, Yakima; Karen Loewen, Burien; one brother, Floyd A. Plumlee, White Swan; two sisters, Sharon (Fred) Rakevick, Elma, Wash., and Althea (David) Plumlee, Buena, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leona, Floyd; her stepfather, Harold Rush; her spouse, Ernest T. Floyd; a daughter, Dixie (Edwards, Kanel) Finney; three brothers, Russ, Frank and Richard; three sisters, Mary Feil, Darlene Hamilton and Diane Plumlee; and three grandchildren, Scott Edwards, Ernesto Mata and Tracy Mortensen.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Spirit Alive Wesleyan Church, 3601 Mt. View Avenue, Yakima, Wash.
