Douglas L. “Doug” Maier, age 55, of Fromberg, Mont., died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Billings Health and Rehabilitation Community. He was born on Jan. 13, 1954, in Ritzville, a son of Larry and Marge Maier. After graduation from Ritzville High School in 1972, he attended Billings Automotive Training School and was employed by Bob Smith Lincoln Mercury before moving to Bridger to work for Yellowstone Furniture Factory. He was employed there for 32 years until their closing. He then worked at Timberweld in Columbus for three years. He had a love of trains and had been a member of the Yellowstone Valley Model Railway Club (YVMRC) for more than 20 years. He married Joan (Joanie) Taylor on July 3, 1976, and they settled in Fromberg, Mont. He is survived by his wife, Joanie; brother-in-law, Dick (Sandy) Taylor; one niece, Michelle (Brent) Lipp; one nephew, Scott (Shook-Ming) Taylor; two great-nieces, Peyton Lipp and Ayla Taylor; one great – nephew, Carson Lipp; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and his brother, Craig. A memorial service was held Nov. 6, 2009, at the Fromberg United Methodist Church, with interment following in Rockvale Cemetery. Cremation has taken place with Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Fromberg United Methodist Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society or the YVMRC. |
