Last week, the junior high girls’ basketball team had a game in Sprague/Harrington. The “A” team was down 10 points, and then by the fourth quarter the two teams were tied.

Then Sprague/Harrington got another point and shortly after, the teams were tied again. With only five seconds left, Chelsey Heidenreich made an amazing pass from half court to Sommer Boyd, who shot and scored the winning point!

The “B” team had an amazing win. The first quarter, Lind-Ritzville was in the lead by six points, holding Sprague/Harrington to zero.

By second quarter, L-R had 10 points and Sprague/Harrington still had zero. In the third quarter, Lind-Ritzville had 15 points and Sprague/Harrington stuck at zero. By the fourth quarter, Sprague/Harrington scored six points, but Ritzville held onto an exciting win with 20-6.

Last week, Pheasants Forever released pheasants and a few huns for the kids who showed up. Pheasants Forever had guys come down from Cheney who breed bird dogs and train them to stay on point.

After the bird release, someone from Spokane brought a Goshawk, which is native to this state, to show what a falconer does.

He released the hun and the hawk acted interested at first, but changed his mind and landed on some old farm equipment. I guess that is why the shotgun replaced the bird.

Afterward, Pheasants Forever paid for everyone’s shells. This went on throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Last week, Nov. 3-7, we had student-led conferences. Fifth through eighth graders had their conference with their navigation teacher.

The conferences are student led, which means the students do most of the talking and show their work.

Things that were in student portfolios included PowerPoints from computer, math tests, band test sheet and science journals.

Every conference was held in the Ritzville Grade School gym. Conferences are good because it gives kids a chance to show their parents the big projects in each of their classes.

Also, students show parents their navigation folder and explain to them what is learned in navigation. Students are glad it is a new quarter because they start out fresh again!
