May 15, 2008 Broncos’ tennis players advance
The Lind-Ritzville Broncos’ tennis team will compete at the district tournament today (Thursday) at Ferris High School. Ben Bouwman and Julio Cardenas will join Josh Hernandez and Frankie Rangel in doubles’ action while Elissa Bouwman and Mandi Main will compete in girls’ doubles. Chris Shields, No. 1 boys’ single player, L-R’s No. 2 girls’ singles player Jessica Slater and the No. 2 doubles’ pairing of Stephanie Steinberger and Shelby Youngren qualified for the district tourney, but due to the date of the state FFA convention being moved, they will not participate. At the Seconds Tournament last Saturday at Ferris High School, Ben Bouwman and Julio Cardenas defeated Chewelah, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. They were then defeated by St. George’s, 5-7, 0-6. The Broncos’ pairing will play at the district tournament. Cody Kiehn, playing in boys’ singles, was defeated by the No. 1 player from Lakeside, 0-6, 0-6. On the girls’ side, the doubles’ team of Elissa Bouwman and Mandi Main defeated Valley Christian, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. They lost to Davenport, 3-6 and 3-6, and advance to districts. |
