May 15, 2008 Picnic at the Palouse is Saturday
The second annual Picnic at the Palouse, sponsored by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, is this Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Palouse Falls State Park. The picnic will feature new interpretive panels about the ice age floods and various points of interest at the park as well as environmental educational activities for youth and a guided walk through part of the park. The campgrounds, bulletin boards and water spigots have also undergone a facelift. Topping the day’s agenda is free hot dogs, chips and drinks for the first 600 people and an appearance of Eager Beaver, the state parks’ mascot. Everyone is encouraged to attend and see what a spectacular sight the falls provides amidst sagebrush and scabrock. Melt-off from the mountains of Idaho, where the Palouse River begins, is high and the falls is flowing heavy. Several bird species are in the park this time of year for bird watchers of all calibers. |
