Crop acreage reports now accepted

for USDA programs

The Farm Service Agency (FSA) is now accepting reports of planted acreage from farmers and landowners interested in establishing an official record of crops being grown this season. Acreage reports are required for participants in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), and for persons holding multi-peril crop insurance or Noninsured Assistance Program (NAP) policies.

Acreage reports have historically also been required for participation in programs such as the Direct Counter-Cyclical (DCP) program, and for obtaining price support benefits through FSA. With the uncertain status of the farm legislation being finalized in Congress, these programs are not currently authorized. It is quite likely that with the completion of the farm bill, the programs approved will require acreage reports to establish eligibility for participation.

Therefore, we encourage all producers to consider filing an acreage report through FSA during the standard reporting period, which runs through June 30, 2008. Acreage reports may also be filed after that point under late filing provisions; however, there is a fee for late filings.

In order to file an acreage report, please call our office for an appointment, at (509) 659-1761. During your appointment, please be prepared to report the types of crops planted, including planting dates for annual crops. NAP policy holders are also reminded that June 30, 2008, is also the final date to provide your record of production on 2007 crops covered by a NAP policy.
