Green day. Volunteers at the Ritzville City Park, including Rachael McCrady (left), Lowell Becker and Carol Becker, get started early last Saturday morning tackling several Join Hands Day projects around the city. The painters grabbed paintbrushes and rollers to repaint the benches green.

Organizers of Ritzville’s Join Hands Day on May 3 deemed the annual endeavor a resounding success, noting that the volunteer group was the largest they’ve ever had.

Thirty-five youth and adult volunteers spent a good portion of last Saturday dedicating their time and efforts to civic improvements and area residents.

Volunteers weeded and spread red rock at the entrance on West First Avenue; painted all the park benches at the city park; helped seven homeowners with yard work, stacking wood, washing windows, etc.; applied a preservative to the tables in Pioneer Plaza and benches on Main Avenue; and collected two carloads of food for the Ritzville Food Pantry.
