Chamber contract for visitor’s center modified

A previously approved contract between the city and the Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce was rescinded Tuesday and the council approved a modified version.

Two provisions in the contract were altered and the council unanimously approved the changes. City Clerk/Treasurer David Grove confirmed the issues. He said one contract provision required the chamber to be open on Saturdays. He explained that the chamber, in previous years, had not been able to staff the visitors’ center on Saturdays.

The language was changed to read: “From June to September the V.I.C. (Visitors Information Center) will also be open on weekends or special occasions as needed by mutual agreement.”

The second change addressed keeping chamber supply expenditures separate from V.I.C. expenses. Grove explained that the practice was impractical and he recommended the council not require the separate accounting procedures.

Council members unanimously approved the revised contract.
