April 10, 2008 Reading month called a success in Lind
The Lind Elementary School students participated in the annual book fair and a slew of activities during the month of March. The school hosted a Buy One, Get One Free book fair March 20-26 to purchase books for the school library and classroom libraries. Activities celebrating this year’s theme, Take a Reading Road Trip, included guessing games in the library, dress up days, poster contests and a Web Quest Challenge for the older elementary students. More than $200 in gift certificates were awarded to students and families during the month. About $500 in books was given to preschool through sixth grade classroom libraries. Because of the volunteer efforts at family night and the book fair, the reading month activities were deemed a success. The Lind Fun Fair and Lind Grange No. 1035 contributed monetary donations to the school library, according to librarian Janet Sanger. Lance Dwinell was the closest to guess the number of pennies in a jar. Dustin Norton, Marlo Boyd, Jenna Bennett and Rylie Sackmann were the top participants in the Eggs in a Jar contest. Poster contest winners were Bridgett Espinosa, kindergarten; Sharon Anderson, first grade; Emily Rosen, second grade; and TyAnn Tellefson, third grade. Web Quest Challenge winners were: Alan Field, fourth grade; Omar Mora and Jenna Bennett, fifth grade; Connor O’Neill/Jennifer Silva and Maya Wahl/Ruby Silva, sixth grade. Alexandria Myers, Shannon Myers, Jamie Monroe, Billy Parker, Heidi Kurkowski and Jenna Bennett garnered prizes during the family night drawing. |
