Ag awareness, safety fair kicks off today

 

The annual Agriculture Awareness and Youth Safety Fair returns to the Wheat Land Communities’ Fairgrounds this week for schools, 4-H clubs and FFA chapters in Eastern Adams County.

Youth with livestock will arrive between 4:30-6 p.m. today (Thursday), April 10, to enter steers and have vet inspections.

On Friday, weigh-in and tagging steers is at 7 a.m. with 4-H/FFA clinics at 8 a.m.

At 9 a.m., Brad Gering and Andy Williams will present the Quality Assurance Workshop, which is required for all 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale participants.

Topping the day’s activities is the Food for America, Ag Kids Who Care and Safety Clinics for K-4 grade students from 12:15-2:30 p.m.

Presentations will include Adams County Sheriff’s Office, electrical safety, EMTs, farm safety, Ritzville Police Department, livestock safety, fire safety, Where Your Food Comes From, ice cream making demonstration, How Bread is Made, Washington State Patrol, 4-H safety/information booth and bus safety.

Later in the afternoon a host of clinics for 4-H/FFA members from 3-5 p.m. will include textiles, nutrition, fitting and showing for beef, sheep, swine and horses, foods judging, clothing judging, 4-H demonstrations and how to judge livestock.

Weather permitting, the Birds of Play will launch several rockets during a presentation and display of model airplanes and rockets. The demonstration is open to youth K-12 and accompanying adults.

The Ritzville Livestock 4-H Club will meet at 6 p.m. in the Marcellus Grange Hall Friday night.
