County slates free disposal days

As spring bulbs poke their heads out of the ground and robins hop from one yard to the next, Adams County residents have already ventured outside to start working in the yard.

Adams County will accept green waste, mixed loads of yard debris, appliances and household hazardous waste throughout the county in early April.

Household Hazardous Waste collections are scheduled at the Adams County Public Works shop sites in each of the following communities:

• Lind – Tuesday, April 8, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

• Ritzville – Tuesday, April 8, 1-2 p.m.

• Washtucna, Thursday, April 10, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

• Othello – Thursday, April 10, 1-2 p.m.

Citizens must take waste in clearly labeled original containers to the collection sites. Household Hazardous Waste includes: paint (latex and oil base), batteries, oil, engine fluids, household cleaning supplies, insecticides, pesticides and fertilizers.

Quantities are limited to five gallons.

The annual Adams County Clean-up day is set for Saturday, April 12. The Ritzville and Bruce Transfer Stations will accept green waste and mixed loads of yard debris from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. that day. All loads are required by law to be secured.

Appliances will also be accepted free of charge at the transfer stations during the same hours.
