March 6, 2008 Public works dealing with water leaks, potholes
Larry Swift, the city’s public works director, told the council that crews will address a variety of potholes and open cuts in the pavement as soon as the weather permits. He noted that the crews have been unable to drive up to the city’s gravel supply due to muddy road conditions. “We have a bunch of holes in the streets, but we haven’t been able to get to the gravel and sand,” he said. Swift said crews should be able to access the gravel in the next few days and will then build up the holes in the streets. He noted that none of the holes will be paved over until the ground dries out. The city crews have also been working on some water leaks in the city. A particularly pesky problem has had crews working on Division Street near the Little League field for several days. Two water service lines are being repaired there. Swift said that the city needs to run about 70 feet of service line to replace the old supply lines that are severely rusted.
