February 28, 2008 Gilson gym’s floor saga continues
The continuing problem of bulging of the Gilson Gymnasium floor grabbed the attention of the Ritzville School Board at its meeting Feb. 19. The board hopes to find a way to get a reading of the humidity under the floor. High school Principal David Funk would like to “wait and see if it (the bulging) goes down. It is one of the concerns that keeps coming back to me.” Funk attempted to have another expert come in but the expert said he wouldn’t go against the installers, as “they know more than I do about these floors.” The board agreed the “million dollar question” is where is the moisture coming from? Board member Warren Kragt said the board should get someone to look at it. “We have had more water in the last year. We need to talk to a concrete expert to see if water can come up through “x” amount of concrete.” Since the gym’s renovation, the district has battled floor problems, and has already gone through a series of tests and reviews of the flooring and sub floor in an effort to determine where the moisture is coming from. Superintendent Dwight Remick will report back to the board at the next meeting to see if a concrete expert is available. In other gym information, Funk reported he is studying ways to determine who is using the gym by way of cards at what time. He believes the gym and weight room should be accessible by card at only specifically named times. He is in the process of determining what times for each facility and will report back to the board at a later date. |
