February 21, 2008 Adams County voters pick McCain, Clinton
With a total of 2,642 Adams County ballots counted on Tuesday during the Washington State Presidential Primary, Senator John McCain was the leading Republican candidate for president while Hillary Clinton picked up 54 percent of the Democratic vote to edge Barack Obama. Statewide, on Wednesday morning, McCain was the leading Republican with 187,051 votes, 48.9 percent of the votes cast by those who declared themselves Republicans. The state’s Democrats selected Obama, who received 49.99 percent of their votes — a total of 259,323. Clinton’s statewide numbers were 243,306 for 46.90 percent. Within Adams County, Clinton picked up 455 votes to Obama’s 345. McCain took in 705 votes while Mike Huckabee collected 302 votes and Mitt Romney earned 290 votes. Locally, several school districts enjoyed voter success as every maintenance and operation levy passed on Tuesday. The Ritzville School District’s levy picked up 66.28 percent of the vote in favor of the measure. The vote count was 515 to 262. In Lind the levy passed with 65.90 percent of the vote. Washtucna residents approved their school levy by a 70.40 percent margin. Countywide, 838 voters declared themselves Democrats. Republicans tallied 1,432 of the total ballots turned in. Another 372 voters submitted the nonpartisan ballot, choosing to avoid a party declaration and only voting for the school levies. The voting results include:
