DARE program receives $461 boost

Police Chief David McCormick told the city council Tuesday that he received a check for $461.50 from the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair. The donation was earmarked for the city’s DARE program.

The contribution was made possible when Wheatland Waste Systems purchased a hog during last fall’s fair and then returned the hog to be sold a second time. The proceeds from the original purchase by Wheatland Waste is then donated to the DARE program. Then the hog is sold a second time. Those proceeds go to the FFA or 4-H member who raised the animal.
